Trying to eat healthier? Many of us are, and growing your own vegetables and fruits is a healthy and economical alternative to buying commercially-grown produce. But, what if you can't grow your own, due to space, physical ability or simply time constraints??
Well, there's an alternative. You could choose to support Alabama Farmers, Alabama's economy, and keep those dollars you spend on fruits and vegetables in the hands of the ones that grow that good food.... it's an initiative called GrowAlabama.com, and it's becoming VERY popular.

Started by chiropractor Jerry Spencer in 1998, GrowAlabama is now the country's first statewide multi-farm community supported agriculture program... with the best Alabama has to offer! Jerry marks his personal financial success in farming by being able to send his son to college. For society, it’ll be when all other Alabama farmers can send their kids to college, and all people have access to produce and meat harvested only 48 hours before dinner time.

GrowAlabama's subscription growth rate is impressive, starting this year with 400 subscribers.... and as of mid-April, had over 660! Subscriptions are available in different sizes to suit any family size, and can be picked up at a central local location, or delivered for a small fee. Extras are available as well, such as free-range, hormone and antibiotic-free meats, free-range eggs, goat cheese, drinkable yogurts, olive oil, coffee, vinegar, organic milk and salt.
From their website - " With less than 5% of fresh produce in grocery stores from Alabama, Grow Alabama is your opportunity to have locally grown vegetables, fruits, eggs, dairy products, even fresh meats delivered to your home, office, or to a central pick-up point near you, from Alabama’s family farms. One taste, and you’ll find there are still farms where the fields are treated with care, not chemicals, and farmers put not pesticides, but their hopes and hearts into their land to grow food that is their pride."
Here are the results of a recent offering, their "quiche box" was offered as an additional purchase for $10 - it contained leeks, crimini mushrooms, fresh spinach, goat cheese, free-range eggs as well as guinea eggs (interesting shape, and 4x as hard as hen's eggs) and an excellent recipe for the quiche.... here's a photo of how mine turned out.
